Very often, when buying a new TV, people think – what to choose, cable TV or digital. But does it make sense to compare these two types of broadcasting?
Description of digital and cable television
This type of television is called digital due to the fact that it is based on a digital signal. In terms of sound and image quality, digital television is significantly superior to analog, mainly due to the peculiarities of analog and digital signals. Video and sound are encrypted and transmitted as separate digital signals, while in the case of analog television the signal is transmitted continuously. Thus, digital television guarantees higher quality sound and image and much less possible interference and distortion.
Cable television is a model of television broadcasting, in which high-frequency signals containing visual and audio information are transmitted from the broadcasting source to the receiving device (TV). Cable television is more stable than terrestrial television, which can already be called outdated, and satellite television, which in our country has not yet acquired the proper level of development and support, although the forecast for the spread of satellite television is the most favorable. Cable television reliably protects the signal from interference and allows you to provide a subscriber with a large number of TV channels.
Comparison of digital and cable television
In fact, comparing digital and cable television is impossible and does not make the slightest sense. The fact is that cable television, in fact, is only one of many ways to deliver information to the subscriber, while digital television is a type of video signal. Therefore, cable television can be put on a par with satellite and terrestrial television, and digital television can be compared only with analogue. Moreover, digital television can be both cable and satellite.
If we compare digital and analog television, the advantages of the former are higher quality sound and image, virtually one hundred percent protection from interference and distortion and quite affordable price. Cable television also surpasses terrestrial television in everything, and in comparison with satellite television loses only in the number of channels. Unfortunately, in Russia, satellite TV does not yet have good technical support and the necessary stability, so if it is possible to connect digital television via cable, you can wait a little while to buy the coveted “dish”.
To make a comparison between cable and digital television is incorrect, because digital television is a type of broadcasting, the type of transmitted signal, and cable television is a way of delivering the signal. However, it is possible to compare cable, terrestrial and satellite TV. Similarly, digital and analogue television can be contrasted with each other.
